How to empty the waste toner container from a Xerox Altalink C8155

So… you are in a pinch
and need to empty your waste toner container because you don’t have one
and someone forgot to order a back up?
Got it – well this might help.

If you prefer to read the steps for how to empty a waste toner container.
Here they are:

Step 1: Locate the Waste Toner Container The waste toner container is usually located near the bottom of the printer, on the left-hand side. Look for a rectangular-shaped container with a black cap.

Step 2: Remove the Waste Toner Container To remove the waste toner container, gently pull it outwards towards you. Be sure to hold it by the handles on both sides to prevent any toner from spilling out.

Step 3: Empty the Waste Toner Container Once you have removed the waste toner container, take it to a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling any toner particles. Be sure to wear gloves and a mask for protection. Open the black cap of the waste toner container and carefully pour the contents into a trash bag or other suitable container.

Step 4: Clean the Waste Toner Container After emptying the waste toner container, use a dry cloth or tissue to wipe away any toner residue from the inside and outside of the container. Be sure to avoid using water or any liquid cleaner, as this may damage the container.

Step 5: Reinstall the Waste Toner Container Once the waste toner container is empty and clean, slide it back into its original position inside the printer. Make sure it clicks into place, so it is properly secured.

Step 6: Close the Front Cover After reinstalling the waste toner container, close the front cover of the printer.

And that’s it! You (hopefully) have successfully emptied the waste toner container from your Xerox Altalink C8155. It’s a good idea to check the container regularly and replace it as needed to ensure that your printer continues to operate smoothly.

How To: Install Xerox Drivers

In this entry – we will help you navigate the Xerox Support Portal to install the correct Xerox Drivers on your computer. We will be using the Xerox Altalink C8045 as a reference point for the download and installation of the correct Xerox Drivers.

LET’S BEGIN!

First things first –

There is a lot of information on the internet about Xerox Drivers – most of the good stuff is hard to find. We write these helpful guides mainly for our customers, but also for anyone on the internet that is looking for help.

Step 1

Open up a Google search window and type in Xerox *MODEL NUMBER* Driver Install

See picture for example. We are using a Altalink C8045 as our example to download the drivers.

Step 2

Click on the link that has “downloads” close to the end of the green link.

Step 3

Next step, you need to click on the associated product. DON’T FREAK OUT!
This is just asking you if you have the built in controller or the EFI Fiery Controller.
If you don’t know – You probably just have the Built-in Xerox Print Controller

Step 4

Easy next step – Click to add the Smart Start – Driver Installer for your product.
MAKE SURE you download with the correct operating system and language. Those options for the driver should automatically populate, but understandably technology isn’t always intuitive. Just be careful not to should on yourself.

Step 5

Run the installation package and follow the instructions.
We did not write out all of those steps in this blog entry because the Xerox Drivers package has the steps already.

How to: Clean Print Head on Altalink – Got Streaks?

Are you getting streaks or lines coming out on your print jobs? Could be because the print head is dirty.

Sometimes you will get streaks or lines appearing on a Xerox Altalink print outs. Usually these lines are a particular color and a most of the time related to the drums.
The first, and cheapest way, to resolve these streaks is to clean the print heads. Luckily, Xerox has made cleaning the print heads super easy on the Altalinks.

Let’s jump into the steps on how to clean the print heads and attempt to clean up the streaks – if it doesn’t work, don’t worry. We have more options below.

Step 1: TURN OFF XEROX
Please don’t attempt this while the Xerox is powered on.

Open the Front Cover of the Printer

Rotate the orange lever to the left

Pull down and open the Drum Cartridge Cover down until it clicks into the full open position.

R1, R1, R3, and R4 are all drums.
Slowly pull the little yellow plastic lens cleaner…SLOWLY =)

Pull until you see the three dots.
NOTE – The lens cleaner does not detach from the printer.

After you have cleaned each print head,
Close the Drum Cartridge Cover.

Return the tray table….er…. orange level to the upright and locked position.

Close the Front Cover and BAM! FINISHED

At this point you need to power on the device and print a few test copies out. If cleaning the print heads didn’t make the streaks or lines disappear, then next thing to check is the supply levels.

If any of the drums are low or 0% remaining, they can cause lines or streaks to appear on the pages. Replace the drums and try the test prints again.

Still an issues? Hmmmmm….Almost full waste toner containers and almost empty toner’s could cause this problem also.

This article is taken directly from a Xerox Support Technician on how to setup WorkFlow Scanning on a Xerox Altalink.

Solution : Configure Workflow Scanning File Repository Settings

A file repository is a network location where scanned images are stored. Configure the file repository settings before you create a workflow.

Your device supports the following transfer protocols:

– FTP
– SFTP
– SMB
– HTTP/HTTPS
Note: HTTP/HTTPS scans to a Web server using a CGI script.

FTP or SFTP:

Before you begin:

– Ensure that FTP or SFTP services are running on the server or computer being used to store scanned image files. Note the IP address or host name.
– Create a user account and password with read and write access for the printer to use to access the repository folder. Note the user name and password.
– Create a folder within the FTP or SFTP root. Note the directory path, user name, and password. This folder is your file repository.
– Test the connection. Log in to the file repository from a computer with the user name and password. Create a folder in the directory, then delete it. If you cannot create and delete the folder, check the user account access rights.
Note: Only configure the file repository for the transfer protocol (FTP/sFTP, SMB, HTTP/HTTPs) you will be using.

To configure file repository settings for FTP or SFTP:

– Access the Embedded Web Server and login as System Administrator. See the Related Content section for additional information.
– In the Embedded Web Server, click Properties > Apps.
– Click Workflow Scanning > File Repository Setup.
– Click Add New.
– In the Friendly Name field, type a name for the repository.
– For Default Repository Protocol, click the arrow, then select FTP or SFTP.
– Select the address type. Options for FTP include IPv4, IPv6, or Host Name. Options for SFTP include IPv4, or Host Name.
– Type the appropriately formatted address and port number of your server.
– For Default Repository Document Path, type the directory path of the folder beginning at the root of FTP or SFTP services. For example, //directoryname/foldername.
– If you want the printer to create .XSM subfolders for single page format files, select Sub-folder (.XSM) for 1 File Per Page, File Format jobs.
– For Default Repository Login Credentials, select an option:
– Authenticated User and Domain: This option instructs the device to use the user name and domain of the logged-in user when the device accesses the repository.
– Logged in User: This option instructs the device to log in to the repository with the credentials of the logged-in user.
– Prompt at device control panel: This option instructs the device to prompt users at the control panel for the repository credentials.
– Device: This option instructs the device to use specific credentials when it accesses the repository.
– For Login Name and Password, type the credentials.
– To update an existing password, select Select to save new password.
– Click Save.
– Logout of System Administrator mode. See the Related Content section for additional information.

SMB:

Before you begin:

– Ensure that SMB services are running on the server or computer where you want to store scanned image files. Note the IP address or host name.
– On the SMB server, create a shared folder. This folder is your file repository. Note the directory path, Share Name of the folder, and the Computer Name or Server Name.
– Create a user account and password with read and write access for the printer to use to access the repository folder. Note the user name and password.
– Test the connection by logging in to the file repository from a computer with the user name and password. Create a folder in the directory, then delete it. If you cannot do this test, check the user account access rights.

To configure file repository settings for SMB:

– Access the Embedded Web Server and login as System Administrator. See the Related Content section for additional information.
– In the Embedded Web Server, click Properties > Apps.
– Click Workflow Scanning > File Repository Setup.
– Click Add New.
– In the Friendly Name field, type a name for the repository.
– For Default Repository Protocol, click the arrow, then select SMB.
– Select the address type. Options are IPv4 or Host Name.

– Click Save.

HTTP/HTTPS:

Before you begin:

– Enable HTTP or Secure HTTP (SSL). Ensure that a certificate is installed on the printer if you are using SSL.
– Configure your Web server, and ensure that HTTP/HTTPS services are running. POST requests and scanned data are sent to the server and processed by a CGI script. Note the IP address or host name of the Web server.
– Create a user account and password for the printer on the Web server. Note the user name and password.
– Create a /home directory for the printer.
– Create a /bin directory in the home directory.
– Copy an executable CGI script into the /bin directory. You can create your own script, or download a sample script. For details, see CGI Scripts. Note the path to the script. The script can be defined with script_name.extension or by path/script_name.extension.
– Create a folder with read and write permissions on the Web server, or alternate server. Note the directory path, user name, and password. This folder is your file repository.
– Test the connection by logging in to the home directory of the printer on the Web server. Send a POST request and file to the Web server. Check to see if the file is in the repository.

CGI Scripts

A CGI (Common Gateway Interface) script is a program on a Web server that is executed when the server receives a request from a browser. A CGI script is required to allow files to be transferred to your HTTP server from your printer.

When a document is scanned, the printer logs in to the Web server, sends a POST request along with the scanned file, then logs out. The CGI script handles the remaining details of file transfer.

To download a sample CGI script:

Configure File Repository Settings for HTTP/HTTPS:

– Access the Embedded Web Server and login as System Administrator. See the Related Content section for additional information.
– In the Embedded Web Server, click Properties > Apps > Workflow Scanning > File Repository Setup.
– Click Add New.
– In the Settings area, configure the following items:
– For Friendly Name, type a name for the repository.
– For Default Repository Protocol, select HTTP or HTTPS, then select an address type. Options are IPv4 Address, IPv6 Address, or Host Name.
– For Default Repository Server, type the appropriately formatted address and port number of your server.
– To validate the SSL certificate used for HTTPS, select Validate Repository Certificate.

Note: To verify that a digital certificate is installed on the device, click View Root/Intermediate Trusted Certificates.

– For Script path and filename, type the path to the CGI script, starting at the root. For example: /directoryname/foldername. To download working example scripts, click Get Example Scripts.
– For Default Repository Document Path, type the directory path of the folder. For Web server directories, type the path, starting at the root. For example, //directoryname/foldername.
– If you want the device to create .XSM subfolders for single-page-format files, select Sub-folder (.XSM) for 1 File Per Page, File Format jobs.
– For Default Repository Login Credentials, select an option:
– Authenticated User and Domain: This option instructs the device to use the user name and domain of the logged-in user when it accesses the repository.
– Logged in User: This option instructs the device to log in to the repository with the credentials of the logged-in user.

How to Turn Off Banner Pages on your Xerox Altalink C8030/35/45/55

The Xerox Altalink C8000 series is a very powerful machine with loads of customization settings. A number of these settings can be changed from the unit itself without requiring a login on Centerware with a computer.

To turn off Banner (cover) Pages (the page that prints out before the document does that shows which user printed it) follow the steps below:

How to setup Scan to Email with Gmail on Xerox Altalink

There is a lot of information out there on how to setup scan to email using GMAIL on your Xerox Altalink Device. We setup scan to email with a Xerox Altalink about once a week. There are different steps needed depending on your email provider. We have found that one of the easiest and fastest ways to configure Scan to Email on a Xerox Altalink, is by using GMAIL as the sender.

Below are the steps you should follow if having issues setting up scan to email on a Xerox Altalink.

**VERY IMPORTANT FIRST STEP**
Log into your Gmail account as the administrator and Allow for less secure apps.
Link on how to change account access for less secure apps.

1. Login to Centreware Control Panel
(Using the IP address of the Xerox, type it in a web browser)
as the Administrator
(Default Username: Admin | Default Password: 1111).

2. Click on the [Properties] tab.

3. Enter the login name in the User ID field, and the password in the Password field.

NOTE: The default login name is “admin”, and the default password is “1111″.

4. Click on the [Login] button. The Configuration Overview window will be displayed.

5. Click on [Connectivity] to expand the list of options.

6. Click on [Protocols] to expand the list.

7. Click on [SMTP Server]. The Require Information tab will be displayed.

8. Select the [Static] radio button next to SMTP Server Setup.

9. Enter smtp.Gmail.com in the SMTP Server IP Address / Host Name field.

10. Enter 587 or 465 for a Port in the Port Number for sending E-mail / Internet fax.

NOTE: Port 587 should be used by default and if there are any issues use Port 465. If any failed reports indicating connection issues, these ports may need to be verified that they are not being blocked on the network.

11. From the SMTP – SSL / TLS Communication pull-down, select [SSL / TLS] from the list.

12. Enter the Gmail e-mail address in the Machine’s E-mail Address field. The format should be the full e-mail address such as username@gmail.com.

13. Enter the full e-mail address in the Login Name field.

14. Enter the password for the Gmail account in the fields provided.

15. Select the [System] radio button under the Login Credentials for E-mail Send section.

16. Click the [Apply] button.

The above steps should work for you to configure your Xerox Altalink Scan to Email features, using GMAIL as your mail sender.

You will then need to go into the address book and add the email addresses for each person that will needs scan to email.

**NOTE**
If you are having issues, under the connectivity settings of the IPv4 address there is a field labeled “Domain”. There needs to be something in this blank. I suggest using the domain.com of the company – example : gmail.com.

– Then Press Machine Status Button
– Then Click Tools > Select Service Settings > Job Sheets
– Then you should see Banner Sheets. In this window you have the options to enable to disable.
